I. The Band
===========

    1. Who are Rammstein ?

Rammstein is a German heavy metal/industrial/gothic band. They were formed in 1994,
by Richard Kruspe (lead guitar). The band members are:

- Richard Kruspe (lead guitar)
- Paul Landers (lead guitar)
- Till Lindemann (vocals)
- Flake Lorenz (keyboards)
- Oliver Riedel (Bass)
- Christoph Schneider (Drums)

All band members grew up in the former East Germany.

    2. How is "Rammstein" pronounced ?

Rommsteen, rahmstien, ... we've seen and heard them all. But how to pronounce it the right way?
"R", "a" like in car, "mm", "s" like in cash, "t", "ei" like in buy, "n".

    3. Are Rammstein neo-nazi's ? anti-semitists ? pedophiles ? ... ?

Many of Rammstein's lyrics seem to indicate that Rammstein are neo-nazi's, anti-semitists,
pedophiles, ... None of this is true. Rammstein do not promote violence or hatred. In the
lyrics, they sometimes describe acts of violence in a provocative way. Their purpose with
this is to show where violence comes from, why people would do such things.

    4. Was Till Lindeman a swimming champion ?



    5. Where does the name "Rammstein" come from ?

It originates from the Ramstein Airbase, a US airbase in Germany where, during a flight show,
a plane crashed and 80 people were killed or wounded. The band added an extra 'm'
as a play on words: in German, 'Rammen' means to hit severely and repeatedly and 'Stein'
means stone.

    2. How do you pronounce ... ?

    3. Are there any translations ?

There are some translations. In my copy of Herzeleid, there are French lyrics printed for
#7, #8 and #9 but I don't know if this also true for other versions.

The songs Du Hast and Engel have been translated to "You Have" and "Angel" and replaced the
German versions on some American versions of Sehnsucht. These translations were altered to
match the rhythm, so they're not perfect translations of the German texts.

There are better translations available on some websites. I don't know which ones are the best,
or where they are at all. Search the web.

Because of the violent nature of the music and the lyrics, Rammstein appeals to people who
really are violent. But it needs to be stressed that this violence does not originate in the
music.
